Helllooooooo sweet friends!!!!!!
I’m baaaaaaaack! Did you miss me?
Why You Haven’t Heard From Me
First of all, I have to explain why I dropped off of the face of the earth for months after being completely committed to blogging.
I believe in being very transparent especially as a mother, in hopes that I can help other mothers who struggle. I am not going to go into MAJOR depth because I am sure I will write more on that at another time. I want to focus on the blessings that have been going on!
But in the promise of being transparent, to put it bluntly, I had a MAJOR relapse in anxiety that spiraled into depression. I have been anxious all my life, but it majorly has taken a turn since the birth of my 4th child. I have been working with a therapist and also for the first time in my life did seek medication. My choice is not for everyone, but I feel like every day I am getting better. I just tried to do everything and ran my body into the ground for years.
God was faithful and helped me through the dark time as he always does. This other side tastes so sweet at the moment. It gave me an appreciation for EVERY.SINGLE.DAY.
Waking up to the sun shining outside as well as in my head has been such a blessing. I try not to take any day for granted. Without Jesus, I would have never made it. I am sure I will post more about my journey at a later time but for now, let’s focus on what has been up!
We Added A Family Member
I have had so many blessings in the past couple months that have the Lord’s fingerprints marked all over them! For one we have a new addition to our family!
Lilly, the fantastic Frenchie as I call her, or Lillylicious.
Our Lil is a one-year-old deaf French bulldog that we got for FREE. YES, FREE!
This could only be an act of God because if you are familiar with Frenchies, they run a pretty penny. A pretty penny that we can’t afford with four kids!
We bought an English Bulldog named Sophie when we were first married, Sophie Maria Chaquita as I called her was my hearts joy. She died just short of 10 years old from a seizure. I was heartbroken and have spent all but four years searching for the perfect dog. The kids begged, we just couldn’t find a fit.
Enter God and his crazy blessings.
I was sitting on my porch in late summer with all the kids and my husband, the new neighbor came over and happened to mention her sister was trying to rehome her dog. A dog that needs lots of attention, she said,” She is GREAT with kids, house trained and all in all a great little pet. ”
Then she said the magical words, “BULLDOG!”
Bulldogs are my breed! I love nothing more than to kiss a squishy snorty face!
“What!? Are you kidding? A FREE bulldog?”
The owners only wishes were that she goes to a loving home who would not breed her and give her lots of attention and love.
We met all the above criteria and welcomed her into our home for a “trial run,” she has been here ever since. She has completed our family and is the most DARLING girl ever, my 5th child!
Now Let’s Talk All The Things Fall +End Of Summer Beach Trip
“A whiff of woodsmoke on the wind, the first chill in the air, the woods just edged with gold…it is September. Time to air the quilts, pick bouquets of sunflowers; time to put the ‘sweet’ in ‘Home Sweet Home.” -Susan Branch, Autumn
Are you a fall girl?
I sure am!
I love all the seasons for different reasons, but fall always seems to be extra dear to my heart! With the first
With the first sound of the cicadas and sweet corn piling on our plates I start brainstorming about all the cozy traditions, school curriculum and fall decorating I am going to plan for the upcoming “season of cozy.”
Isn’t there something about fall that just makes you want to simmer a pot of soup, burn a sweet smelling candle, put pumpkins, mums and cornstalks everywhere and bake, bake, bake!???
We Always end our summer season with an after Labor Day trip to Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes Deleware! We so enjoy it and rent their cabins every year. I love traditions and usually keep the same rhythm every year.
We arrive, and I set up the cabin we rent, complete with a welcome flag, flowers, and tablecloths. I truly believe, wherever mama is she can make a home. So when we go on vacation, even if it is for just a few days, I make sure I bring my special touches of home to wherever we may be.
We had so much fun!
We hung out on the beach, got our traditional after beach Dairy Queen, watched the sunset on the pier (the children just LOVED watching all the men catch loads and loads of fish) visited the nature center, climbed the WWII tower, visited an old Army base, climbed to the dune lookout, went to the “point” of Deleware and roasted marshmallows and hotdogs.
We were able to enjoy this with two other families, and it was a blast, between us we had 12 kiddos and were so happy to make memories with them.
Time To Decorate +Bake + Weekly Happenings
So this past weekend we decorated out front. We went to a cool little Amish farm near our home that was recommended by one of my friends that knows all the little secret spots to get the BEST prices, and I got HUGE mums for $2.00 bucks a piece! We also loaded our van with tons of pumpkins and my husband bought cornstalks.
A salted Carmel candle started gracing my kitchen, and I baked some cream cheese banana bread with some old bananas that I needed to be used. All in all, it was a great start to a season of cozy!
You can find that recipe here. I modified it a bit but you will get the basics.
I look forward to getting back into my blogging rhythm and connecting with all of you again! I have missed you!
So all of the above about sums of our week and start to fall!
What is your favorite fall tradition? Shoot me a message in the comments!
